Foul, Nasty School Lunch!

A closer look at what school children are eating!

4/14/10

Today’s breakfast: Cereal, grits, grape juice, and milk.

I decided to chose the alternative today, because we had sausage biscuits again.  We actually have a lot of different types of cereal offered, and all of them are reduced sugar!  (A picture of the nutrition information below.) A little bowl of cereal isn’t that filling though. I didn’t get any grits because I wasn’t very hungry, and I don’t think grits would go well with cereal anyways.  The grape juice was pretty good also, it wasn’t frozen or warm. Overall rating: 6

Today’s lunch menu: Cheeseburger, beans, apple, oatmeal cookie, and milk.

We got desert today! :) The only things I ate off the plate were the burger and cookie.  The beans looked gross, and I cannot bite whole apples due to a jaw disorder. I wish they would slice the fruit or something. Overall rating: 6

  1. kudos to you for blogging your school meals!! It takes guts. Does anyone ask why you are taking pictures of your lunch?
    More questions to think about:
I think it would be interesting if you could get the facts about how much protein, carbs, sugar, and fats you eat at school. Also how much of the sweet stuff is flavored with corn syrup instead of cane sugar.
Does your school board have a website with school menu and nutrition information for each selection? Our local school board has such a site, it is rigged up like a game where you pick your food and put it on your tray and it shows the calories and nutrition information in a side bar. Kind of interesting.

Do you have the option to bring your lunch on the days you know you wont like what is served?

Also is it possible to talk to the lunchroom staff and have them cut your apple up? It seems like a simple request to me and if you ask politely they should be helpful.

  2. I came over to see what you eat compared to what Mrs. Q eats. I think you have the better end of the deal. Your food looks like REAL food. Have you asked that they cut the apple for you? Maybe a Dr. note that you need it cut up.

    • I agree, I do believe our food is better than hers basically because ours isn’t packaged when we get it.
